KUKA at the Battery Show Europe 2024

The electrification of mobility is changing our lives - not only in our everyday lives, but also in industry. Even though electromobility has already become part of our everyday lives, we are still at the beginning of a rapidly developing and constantly changing technology. There is probably no better place to see this development for yourself than at the Battery Show Europe from 18 - 20 June 2024 in Stuttgart.

In order to develop the best solutions in this complex environment, it is important to create an optimal interplay of outstanding products, in-depth process expertise, engineering and realisation expertise in manufacturing as well as digital skills across the entire value chain. It is precisely this unique setup that KUKA is presenting at this year's Battery Show in Hall 9, Stand D20.

Systems engineering in battery production

In the ‘KUKA Theatre’, you can walk through complete 3D system solutions together with our experts in a 180° theatre and experience every automation step, every process application and the optimum interaction of our product portfolio in various digital factories. From Cell 2 Pack to cell coating, battery disassembly or the perfect harmonisation of automation and manual workstations, we show smart automation solutions from KUKA and you can also experience live how the digital factory leads to greater productivity right from the concept phase of a project.

Automation is our DNA
_We are building the future of Electromobility

KUKA offers you smart production automation in the field of electromobility, turnkey from a single source. From battery assembly to the complete drivetrain and end-of-line testing through to the valuable recycling of the modules - we are guaranteed to have the right solution for you. Including service and maintenance. As a reliable partner to all leading manufacturers, KUKA creates synergies from its expertise in mechanical engineering and the digital factory for efficient and intelligent automation.

KUKA — the clear choice for smart automation.

KUKA accompanies you through every single step of the process chain. From battery module & pack assembly lines, rotary friction welding systems for the production of battery contacts and housings, robotic systems for assembly or quality control to the installation of battery packs in the electric vehicle as well as solutions for the production of battery cells.

Robot portfolio

Several robot models that are suitable for use in battery production can also be seen live at the Battery Show: The KR 500 as MT-version, the innovative heavyweight for packing applications, or the flexible KR SCARA CR, which is perfect for handling battery cells thanks to its high speed.

Equipped with intelligent features, the KR SCARA horizontal articulated arm robot from KUKA offers an attractive overall package: light and slim, yet extremely fast and strong and equipped with a high payload capacity. The perfect solution for automation in confined spaces.

The ideal robot for every step in the battery production process

In cell production in particular, the atmospheric environment in the clean and dry room places special demands on machines. In order to combine maximum productivity with material safety, reliable robotics are required for the clean and dry room. KUKA and the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA) are working closely together on their development. At the Battery Show 2024, we will be presenting a test environment consisting of a cleanroom tent from Fraunhofer IPA, which has certified the AGILUS-2.

Find out about the next steps for your production at the Battery Show Europe.

The KR AGILUS is our compact six-axis robot designed for maximum working speeds.

Friction Stir Welding: the sustainable welding technology for battery housings

Friction stir welding (FSW), which KUKA will be presenting at the Battery Show 2024, enables even difficult-to-weld or dissimilar materials such as aluminium to be welded together with magnesium, copper or steel. Battery housings for electric cars, which are made from various aluminium alloys, are therefore predestined for this innovative welding technology. This is because the robot-based process not only delivers the highest welding quality with good cost-effectiveness, but is also considered a green technology thanks to its low energy consumption.

You can view application examples at the trade fair in Hall 9, Stand D20.

Friction stir welding, also known as friction stir welding (FSW), is a green technology and the optimum welding process for non-ferrous metals with a low melting temperature and for metallic mixed joints.

Autonome mobile Robotic (AMR)

KUKA offers a wide range of mobile robotics that covers the entire value chain and perfectly fulfils all intralogistics and production requirements. At the Battery Show 2024, KUKA will be presenting the KMP 3000P mobile platform. With its payload capacity of up to three tonnes, this heavyweight in intralogistics is ideal for use in battery production - for example for process linking or material transport to the line.

With the KUKA experts, you can get your production moving and discuss solutions directly at the trade fair.

The autonomous mobile platforms from KUKA transport your products efficiently on site and can move omnidirectionally in space.

The next industrial revolution

To take the energy transition to the next level, we need to move away from fossil fuels across all sectors and use renewable energy sources instead. The key word here is decarbonization. It refers to the process that leads to less and less CO2 being emitted and ultimately to a CO2-neutral economy. Electromobility is just the tip of the iceberg and can only play its part in climate protection if it uses renewable energy. And even then, it is just one of many building blocks of the strategy on the way to CO2 neutrality.

Talk to our experts about decarbonization at the trade fair.
