Battery production is one of the core elements of the modern automotive industry, especially regarding the transition to electric vehicles. Car manufacturers are faced with the challenge of producing more efficient, high-quality and sustainable batteries. Robot-based automation solutions play a crucial role in meeting these requirements and optimizing the entire production cycle.
Robot-based automation solutions play a crucial role in meeting these requirements and optimizing the entire production cycle.

Efficient production of batteries: From material preparation to pack assembly

The production cycle of batteries comprises several critical phases: material preparation, cell production and module and pack assembly. Each of these phases comes with specific requirements and challenges, from precision in material processing to efficiency and safety in battery pack assembly. Seamless integration and optimization of these steps is essential to ensure the quality and performance of the end products.

Robots with high payloads are required for module and pack assembly.

Precision and speed: the advantages of KUKA robots in battery production

Automation offers numerous advantages in battery production. Robotic solutions enable a high level of precision, consistency and speed that can hardly be achieved with manual processes. In material preparation, KUKA robots perform precise cutting and coating processes. In cell production, automated systems ensure consistent quality and efficiency. In module and pack assembly, KUKA robots offer flexible and scalable solutions that meet the different requirements of car manufacturers.
Thanks to its high speed and precision, the KR SCARA is predestined for use in battery cell production.

Innovative battery recycling: DeMoBat and KUKA's role in battery disassembly

The EU regulations for battery recycling and disassembly mean additional challenges for automotive suppliers and manufacturers. To meet these requirements, innovative solutions are needed. Our DeMoBat research project with Fraunhofer IPA and KUKA is addressing this issue. The aim of the project is to develop automated processes for the safe and efficient disassembly of electric vehicle batteries. KUKA robots play an important role in this project by carrying out complex disassembly processes and thus contributing to compliance with EU regulations regarding battery recycling.

The aim of the DeMoBat project is to develop automated processes for the safe and efficient dismantling of electric vehicle batteries.

The future of the automotive industry: automation is the key to sustainable battery production

Battery production and disassembly are one of the main topics in the transformation of the automotive industry. Automation solutions from KUKA offer significant advantages in terms of efficiency, precision and sustainability. With projects such as DeMoBat, KUKA is setting new standards in battery disassembly and supporting the automotive industry in overcoming current and future challenges.
