Daimler AG has decided to purchase KUKA's new QUANTEC generation of robots, which uses the new KR C4 robot control system. KUKA was able to win a frame contract for the supply of 3,000 industrial robots.
The new industrial robots cut energy consumption by up to 30 percent, without negatively impacting performance. The design features have also resulted in better dynamic performance, which ultimately is reflected in significantly shorter cycle times. In other words: lower energy consumption, smaller footprint but considerably higher production output. In addition, the number of model types has been streamlined and aligned with customer needs.
The robot's new KR C4 control system is as impressive as its advantageous mechanical features. The latest technical advances in IT technology were applied to replace a large part of the proprietary hardware with smart software solutions. This eliminates the limitations of many conventional interfaces, enabling users to now apply the robots in completely new scenarios and integrate new safety concepts.
"We are pleased that a customer as technologically demanding as Daimler opted for our new robot generation," said KUKA AG CEO Dr. Till Reuter. "This underscores our technical strength in the robot market and our market leadership in the automotive business."
