KUKA lightweight robot nominated for IERA award

The KUKA/DLR lightweight robot has been nominated for the IERA Award. This prize is awarded in recognition of globally successful inventions and entre¬preneurship in robotics and automation

2010年6月2日

It pays tribute not only to the technical innovation but also particularly to the entrepreneurial initiative that is essential for the successful introduction of a good idea on the market. The IERA Award has been conferred jointly by the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society and the International Federation of Robotics (IFR) since 2005.

The nominated products will be presented on 8 June 2010 at the 41st International Symposium on Robotics (ISR 2010) on the occasion of AUTOMATICA, the International Trade Fair for Automation and Mechatronics. The KUKA/DLR lightweight robot will be presented by Bernd Liepert, KUKA AG, and Gerd Hirzinger, DLR.

KUKA Roboter GmbH is showcasing the latest version of the lightweight robot (LWR) at AUTOMATICA from 8 to 11 June 2010 in Hall A 2. With its in-built sensitivity due to integrated sensors, the LWR is ideally suited to handling and assembly applications. Due to its low weight of 16 kg, the robot is highly energy-efficient and portable and can thus be used for a wide range of different tasks. Unlike the predecessor model, it has a lightweight outer structure made of aluminum, taking it a step closer to industrial implementation. In this context, KUKA has already reported on the successful application of a lightweight robot in the framework of a pilot project in series production at Daimler AG (cf KUKA press release dated 2 December 2009).

At AUTOMATICA, KUKA Roboter GmbH is demonstrating operation of the LWR on the mobile omniRob platform. Together, they constitute the production assistant of the future – the autonomously navigating robot.
