Sustainably automated
KUKA Systems working on new large automotive order
2 octobre 2012
Augsburg, October 2, 2012 – Augsburg-based KUKA Systems GmbH is working on a major order for Daimler AG. The turnkey order comprises the complete design, installation and commissioning of three automated seam sealing stations. The purpose of the seam sealing process is to seal and protect flanged car body parts from corrosion. The machines will automatically apply sealant to the subfloor, doors, front end, roof seams and interior of the vehicles. Frugal material dosing makes the system efficient, sustainable and environmentally sound. In this application, cooperating robots position truck bodies to facilitate the process.
"The challenge for more and more systems is the diversity of the vehicle models being processed. We are handling a wide variety of different car body types on these three automated stations – system flexibility is one our key strengths," says Frank Klingemann, CEO of KUKA Systems GmbH. "Our expertise and plant engineering and assembly not only make us world leaders, but also innovation pioneers. We continuously drive our R&D activities forward so that we stay ahead of the pack when it comes to automation in this market," says KUKA AG's CEO, Dr. Till Reuter.
