For gentler patient treatment: 300 KUKA robots for Siemens Healthineers

Innovative technologies for minimally invasive surgery and more: KUKA and Siemens Healthineers are expanding their long-standing partnership. This year and next year, KUKA will supply 300 robots for the medical technology manufacturer's ARTIS pheno angiography system.

The KUKA KR QUANTEC robot is the robotic heart of ARTIS pheno, a state-of-the-art X-ray-based imaging system for interventional, cardiological and, above all, surgical disciplines. The system is used for various medical treatments such as exam-inations of vascular diseases, repairs of heart valves or even complex orthopedic operations of the spine or pelvis.

The robot moves the C-arm with X-ray source and image converter around the patient. The surgeon has optimal access to the surgical field during a medical intervention and is supported by the imaging. Using a joystick, the robotic system can navigate precisely to the individual positions desired by the treating physicians. This enables broad and versatile use in the hybrid operating room

Patients can be positioned differently on the operating table during surgical procedures, and rapid adjustments in positioning are also possible, which in certain situations lead to easier breathing or stabilization of blood pressure.

Since 2016, this system has already been in use in more than 550 hospitals worldwide, and including previous versions, well over 1,200 of the innovative systems are in use.

For many years, KUKA and Siemens Healthineers have been working closely together in the development of state-of-the-art medical technology with robotics support, and together we will continue to shape medical technology in the future.

Dominik Eymüller, Account Manager Medical Robotics at KUKA

In the future, for example, KUKA will be offering the new KR QUANTEC HC, an even more powerful, innovative robot for use in the medical sector, with new, comprehensive safety functions.
