We all know that greater sustainability is one of the major challenges of our time. But how can a company approach this mammoth topic?

Sustainability means more than just protecting the environment. It encompasses a great variety of issues, from social responsibility to resource-efficient production. For KUKA, the focus in this broad field is on topics such as climate protection, responsible products and solutions, responsible procurement, employee responsibility and development, and good corporate governance.

Fundamental work: collecting data

But how can a company improve? An important foundation: collecting and analysing data. Only then can it be determined where action is needed. A transparent presentation is therefore the basis for a sustainability programme with goals and concrete measures.

‘With the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, sustainability is becoming a requirement for more and more European companies. However, we at KUKA started working on a transparent presentation of our global sustainability performance at an early stage. This ranges from energy consumption to waste generation and social engagement,’ says Kerstin Heinrich, Head of Corporate Sustainability at KUKA. ’It also means that decisions must be regularly scrutinised and that we are open to making corrections.’

Award for being a role model

For this commitment, KUKA has now been awarded the ESG Transparency Award 2024 in the ‘Excellence’ class. This renowned prize is awarded to organisations that have integrated future-oriented sustainability practices into their business activities and communicate them transparently.

The initiators of the award write: ‘These pioneers serve as role models because they are changing the world and proving that profitability and sustainability are not contradictions in terms, but rather success strategies for a future worth living.’
