KUKA wins medical robotics contract from Restoration Robotics, Inc.®
KUKA has received a contract from Restoration Robotics, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAIR), the global leader in robotic hair restoration, for the supply of lightweight robots. The robots will be used for the recently launched ARTAS iX™ System.

ARTAS iX™ is the only intelligent solution to offer precise, minimally invasive, repeatable harvesting with simultaneous automated sitemaking and implantation functionality in one compact platform. The 7-axis KUKA lightweight robot performs the individual follicle extraction, mostly at the back of the head, and the implantation into the designated recipient sites on the scalp.
These medical applications are based on the KUKA LBR Med light-weight robot, the first robotic component worldwide to be certified for integration into a medical product. The LBR Med thus enjoys a unique selling point in medical robotics. The certification is based on the internationally recognized “IECEE CB Scheme” – a procedure for certifying conformity with specific safety and quality standards
“KUKA's robotic technology is very well suited to a wide variety of medical applications. Using our products, partners are able to improve time to market for new product development. Partners can focus efforts on their application, confident that the robotic portion of their system is well designed,” says Corey Ryan, Manager of Medical Robotics, KUKA North America.
“Robot systems find many different applications in medicine. We are very pleased that we were able to convince Restoration Robotics, Inc. with our solutions. This once again confirms our technological leadership in the medical engineering sector,” explains Peter Mohnen, CEO of KUKA AG.
