KUKA robots in Trafalgar Square

London/Augsburg, September 2010 Outrace: An installation by Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram comissioned by the London Design Festival supported and enabled by AUDI AG

8 September 2010

The designers Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram have been commissioned to design this year’s public installation for the London Design Festival.

From 16 to 23 September, OUTRACE will empower festival visitors and the global Internet community to take control over eight KUKA robots in Trafalgar Square via the website www.outrace.org and to send short messages which will be written in the air by the robots using LED lights. The synchronized robots are on loan from manufacturing lines at AUDI AG, and are equipped with LED lights from the Audi R15 racing car, the winner of this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.

For a period of a week, messages will be written as light trails in the air, simultaneously recorded by a high-resolution camera and then published on the website and social networks.
