An international premium carmaker placed the order, which consists of engineering, manufacturing and installing three automated production cells. The plant engineering and construction project is valued in the mid double-digit million euro range.
Car body parts such as fenders and engine hoods will be formed on the assembly line. The Augsburg-based automation specialist will integrate 125 KUKA robots into the design of the cells and will supply the control software that will enable them to carry out production process tasks such as clinching, gluing and folding first class car body parts.
"Joining lightweight aluminum parts is a very challenging task from a technical perspective," said Dr. Till Reuter, KUKA AG's CEO. "KUKA Systems is the proven specialist and a reliable partner for customers in this area."
