KUKA iiQoT – leveraging the Industrial IoT for a more transparent and efficient robot fleet

Whether for condition monitoring, asset management or predictive maintenance – with KUKA iiQoT you increase the uptime of your robots. The tool serves as a self-help tool, giving you easy-to-access information about your robot fleet and helping with quick troubleshooting. Beyond this, iiQoT offers a link to our Customer Service, so that you can always get help from our experts when you need it.

IIoT: easy to use, for any industrial requirement

KUKA iiQoT is characterized by an expandable software architecture. Individual modules are stored on the IIoT platform, which can be supplemented customer-specifically at any time. This makes it easy to find one's way around and provides valuable functions depending on industrial application needs. All the advantages and possibilities at a glance:
  • Fault finding and troubleshooting

    • Notification of problems
    • Saving time during fault finding
    • Increasing availability
  • Optimization of the fleet

    • Management of systems and machines
    • Checking safety

Safe and transparent – IIoT in your production shops

The KUKA iiQoT condition monitoring system features a modular software architecture. The IIoT platform contains individual modules for condition monitoring, including predictive maintenance, which can be customized at any time according to customer requirements. Upon establishing a secure connection via an edge gateway, the robot fleet data is located in the KUKA cloud and can be viewed by you and only you from anywhere.

  • Notifications & Alarms

Set your own rules for messages for events and limit violations, messages and variables. Condition Monitoring thus provides the user with automated records in order to detect sources of faults in critical process steps and to minimize long-term time losses in production through improvements.

  • Secure connection between the robot fleet and industrial IoT

The connection between the edge gateway and the KUKA cloud is well protected:

    • Communication only via secure standards (SSO, SSL, SSH, TPM)
    • End-to-end data transfer – no data node issue to be overcome
    • Communication only via secure standard IANA ports (MQTTS: 8883, OPC UA: 4840, HTTPS: 443)
  • Security of edge gateway

An edge gateway is used as a gateway between the robots in the production shop and the connection to the cloud. Security at this junction is important and provided by several factors:

    • Gateway has a firewall mechanism
    • Additionally installed customer IT firewall
    • One-sided connection from the gateway to the cloud = no external connection requests accepted
  • Physical connection to robot

A connection to the KUKA Line Interface (KLI) or, alternatively, to the KUKA Optional Network Interface (KONI) is required for data transmission. KONI has the advantage that it also enables a clear separation of the network and solves the problem of multiple assignment for IP addresses.

All KUKA robots with a KSS 8.3 operating system (or higher) are immediately iiQoT-ready.

  • Changelog

Record of changes to the robot system and robot programs over a defined period of time. These data can be used to trace the last influences on the system in the event of a malfunction. As a result, it accelerates root cause analysis in the event of a robot standstill in production.

  • Fault Diagnosis

Transfer of KUKA diagnostic files directly from iiQoT to KUKA with just 3 clicks. Users benefit from the efficiency savings in their working time by dispensing with the physical procurement of the file (from the office to the robot controller) and eliminating the need for familiarization/explanation for new employees.

  • Backup Manager

Manually save the data of the current work project in the cloud.
  • Efficiency Monitoring

Visualization of the robot program sequence in terms of cycle time and energy consumption: this makes it possible to detect cycle time bottlenecks as well as to assess energy consumption or the effects of program changes.

Basic and Advanced: two IIoT versions for greater productivity and efficiency

With the KUKA iiQoT.Basic version, you can leverage of the advantages of the IoT solution for robot monitoring: Any number of robots, no time limit. Using my.KUKA, you can independently connect the entire robot fleet to the IIoT cloud – without implementing further sensors or components. Additional costs, for example for licenses, are no longer incurred.

With the fee-based KUKA iiQoT.Advanced premium version, we offer you additional applications beyond the core functions that enable you to plan maintenance and servicing work even more precisely, to avoid downtime, to optimize production cycles and to measure energy consumption.

KUKA iiQoT.Advanced will be fully available in Fall 2023. Under certain conditions, customers can test different modules in advance. Contact us to find out more.

Example: Savings potential in the area of fault analysis

Do you want to find out what impact condition monitoring with the IIoT could have on your production? Test the efficient fault analysis with the savings calculator. To do this, enter the average values of the machines in your robot-based production. Take the real production environment in which KUKA iiQoT is to be used as a basis.

Result

The result is based on the possible reduction of unplanned robot downtimes by using the fault analysis of KUKA iiQoT. Input limits and averages are based on experience in the manufacturing industry. All savings are calculated using the content of the free KUKA iiQoT product range. All results consider a complete robot fleet (not per robot).

0 € per year
Cost savings for production failures

Note:

  • More time savings – Further time savings for employees in all fault analyses on a KUKA robot.

  • Shorter buffer times – Existing production downtime savings as soon as specified buffer time is not met.

Further advantages:

  • Help for self-help – Better understanding of the KUKA robot and the process sequence through the transparency of iiQoT.

  • Easy connection to KUKA Customer Service – Transfer robot diagnostic files to KUKA in three clicks.

  • Quick understanding – Quick explanation through an intuitive user interface and setting options.

IMPORTANT: The KUKA iiQoT savings calculator serves as a rough guideline for the impact of robot-based automation. All calculations are based on figures from the experience of current customers. So all information is without warranty. Exact savings must be measured and calculated in detail with the customers.

The advantages of our cloud-based IIoT solution
